Viola & Music Theory Teacher
Having worked extensively as a free-lance professional viola player with most of the UK’s major orchestras, I am now offering my services as a teacher of this instrument.
I also have a number of pupils who require tuition in Music Theory (to Grade 5) in order to go further with their instrumental exams. I am fully mobile and will travel to a home destination in London.
I am a professional violinist and violist based in North London.
I am a very enthusiastic teacher with excellent communication skills.
I have experience delivering group lessons on violin, viola and music theory.
Having taught students from beginner’s level to conservatoire standard, I teach to a high level
though always in an enjoyable manner. Consequently, my students have achieved high
standards during their education and examination processes.

I play and teach a large range of instruments to a high level, covering pretty much any musical style.
Instruments I teach include:
All Guitars (classical, steel strung, electric (my speciality) and bass) and I have a fantastic collection of various guitars at my studio with different tunings etc.
Strings (Double Bass, Cello, Viola, Violin, Mandolin and Ukulele)
Piano / Keyboard (both classical and jazz)
Flute and Saxophone
I also teach Music Theory, including classical, pop, jazz or any style you may be interested in.
I have had students of all ages (young to old), abilities (beginner to pro).
Lessons with me can either take place at your home or at my studio in Southgate/East Barnet (EN4).
Please feel free to give me a call or send me an email if you have any questions or want to arrange a lesson.
I’m available daytime Monday-Wednesday (sometimes Thursday & Friday when I’m not teaching at schools) and I can also do Friday afternoons and Saturdays. Sundays may also be doable on certain weeks. If you contact me I’m sure we’ll be able to arrange a time and location that will suit you.
I’m also particularly interested in teaching ‘classical’ musicians how to play by ear and how to improvise.
If you’d like to free yourself from the constraints of the written page, be more imaginative and develop your ears for working out music (of any genre!) then you should come along to one of the workshops I host on Improvisation at Les Aldrich Music.

Finally a little background on myself:
I’ve been playing music every day since I was around 4 years old (1978!) and I’ve been teaching non-stop for the last 16 years. Much of my teaching over these years has been at a variety of schools in Haringey, Enfield & Barnet (both primary and secondary) as well as a very successful Rock & Pop course at the EBMC (East Barnet Music Centre) for around 12 years. Throughout this period I have also had countless private students.
I currently teach at Finchley Catholic Boys School (for the last 12 years) and privately (mostly at my studio) in the evenings and on Saturdays. When not doing that I am often composing and recording my own music, collaborating with friends, learning new instruments & caring for my son who is on the autistic spectrum – I also have extensive experience of teaching people with special needs.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping you learn to play what you want in a way you enjoy.
